How big is fuel tank on TRX?
Even with its big 33.0-gallon fuel tank, the TRX can go only about 360 miles between fill-ups. We accept that there's no way to enjoy this truck's potential without burning barrels of gas, but it is a significant cost of ownership. The TRX comes rather nicely equipped at its $75,175 starting price.
The base Rams take regular fuel (87 octane), and even the Rams with the 5.7-liter V-8 take midgrade fuel (89 octane). Sometimes premium fuel is simply recommended, but it's also worth noting the 91 octane for the Ram TRX is not a recommendation, it's a requirement.
According to the EPA, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX returns a dismal 10 mpg in city driving, 14 mpg on the highway and 12 mpg combined. Be prepared to budget for premium fuel, too, which the TRX requires.

But if the vehicle manufacturer says your engine needs only 87-octane regular, that is what you should use. The higher octane of premium gas won't make your car faster; in fact, the opposite is possible because higher-octane fuel technically has less energy than lower-octane fuel.
On Terra Firma, the TRX sprinted down our test track, returning a faster-than-lightning 3.8 second zero to sixty time and covering the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds at 110 miles per hour.

Is the TRX the fastest truck?
The TRX can slurp up off-road miles faster than most as it's the quickest gas-powered truck we've ever tested: The 702-hp monster flew to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. That means that despite its 6800-pound heft, it can beat a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 to the next streetlight.
